Synopsis: Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.
Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.
Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Ddarien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. ©goodreads
The first thing that came through my mind when I first heard about this book.
The Fandom world celebrates for this book!
I started reading this on May 4th #maythe4thbewithyou not knowing what I would get, I also thought that the author will make up different fandoms for this book but instead she made another fandoms which is the stargunner for starfield series so whenever I read about any harry potter or star wars references my fangirl heart explodes a little (or a lot). It never let us not fangirl while reading the book.
The author, Ashley Poston made me feel proud of my fandom/s. The way she wrote Elle so fascinated about starfield specially when she talks about it made me realize that’s how I talk about books or my other fandoms to my friends. She has this sparkle in her eyes when she talks about what she loves. And I think we all have that when we talk about the things we love and passionate about.
We can all relate to the fangirl life of Elle, we all have the moment when we found out who are the actors that will going to play the characters of our favorite book or the new character in the remake of our favorite movies (you know what I mean 😉) And to find out that you don’t like the actors that will play it.
The idea of when the ball at the convention with different fandoms are in there and cosplaying is so cool. It is a fangirl’s/fanboy’s dream to find your soulmate to the place surrounded with the things you love and you can just fangirl/fanboy all the way and not be ashamed about it.
The thing I really don’t feel about the book was all I can imagine about Darien was his insured abs. Always his insured abs (not complaining though) It was hard to imagine his face if the only thing I can imagine was his face (it’s a bit distracting).
I recommend this to all the fanpeople (girls/boys) in all fandoms. This is our life written in a book minus the step sisters and step mother. You should read this a fun and easy read that will make you swoon over and over again.
- Favorite character: Sage, she is the coolest fairy godmother in all cinderella retellings
- Favorite Part/s:
- When I thought Darien will recognize Elle the time she went out of the stage in the contest, I really thought Darien will recognize her.
- When Darien went to the country club to look for Elle and there’s Chloe claiming she was the mysterious girl then she saw Darien she went all flirty to him and he went to Elle. The best thing was it is being recorded.
Geekerella shows how hard the life of fangirls, in any fandoms we are .People will judge us for the people or things we support and how we always day dream and talk about them but don’t ever change because we all know this is the only way we can escape this harsh reality even for a while. DO NOT STOP FANGIRLING/FANBOYING.
